WHY THIS CAMPAIGN

Turn a familiar
maintenance cue into
a heart health prompt.

The campaign will use familiar mileage, servicing and engine language to make preventive heart health easier to relate to. Different people, locations and executions can be used across Queensland while keeping a consistent core idea.

AWARENESS

Reach people in everyday life

Outdoor, convenience, digital and community placements can create the first prompt before someone enters a health setting.

Action

Encourage action

Help people recognise that cardiovascular risk can be assessed and give them a reason to start the conversation.

Provider Readiness

Support local practices

Make sure reception, nursing and clinical teams have the information and resources they need before patients respond.

UNDERSTAND THE CONSUMER EXPERIENCE

Know what patients see before they contact
your practice.

The Heart Mileage Report is a campaign tool designed to make heart health feel personally relevant and prompt a conversation with general practice.

Online Heart Mileage Report

This is not a clinical assessment, diagnostic tool or cardiovascular risk calculation. It does not determine eligibility for a Medicare-subsidised Heart Health Check or replace assessment and advice from an appropriately qualified health professional.

1

See the campaign

Outdoor, digital and community advertising invites consumers to discover their heart’s mileage.

2

Run the free report

The Heart Mileage Report estimates lifetime heart statistics using limited information and general averages.

3

Receive a next step

The result may prompt the person to ask their GP whether a Heart Health Check is right for them.

4

Check availability and fees

The find-a-GP and booking steps should tell consumers to ask whether the practice offers the service and whether fees apply.

5

Attend appropriate care

The practice confirms the most suitable clinical pathway, current requirements, appointment type and billing arrangements.

What to expect

What patients may ask you.

People may use the campaign’s everyday language rather than clinical terminology. The important thing is that your team recognises the prompt and knows what to do next

Provider Action

Five practical things your team can do.

The provider rollout is designed to help practices prepare for campaign-generated interest ahead of time and to make the most of the focused interest in heart health.

1

Brief your team

Make sure reception, nurses and GPs are aware of the upcoming campaign, starting mid October, and the questions patients may ask.

2

Agree your pathway

Decide how your practice will respond and how appropriate appointments or assessments will be booked.

3

Use the opportunity

Consider proactive identification and follow-up of people who may benefit from cardiovascular risk assessment. A range of campaign tools, like posters, are available through your local PHN. A digital media kit will also be available to download soon.

4

Take advantage of PHASES resources

Draw on factsheets, webinar recordings, QI tools, Primary Sense guidance, audit support and HealthPathways to strengthen your broader CVD prevention approach.

5

Start now

This is a great opportunity for primary care providers to maximise the interest from the campaign to encourage preventive conversations. Your PHN teams can support your readiness.

Questions

Frequently asked questions.

When does the consumer campaign run?

The current planned campaign period is mid October to early December 2026, subject to final media planning and bookings.

The Heart Mileage Report is a campaign engagement tool intended to prompt consideration of heart health and an appropriate conversation with general practice. It is not a clinical assessment, diagnostic tool or cardiovascular risk calculation and does not determine MBS eligibility.

Provide a simple booking and escalation pathway so non-clinical staff can respond consistently without needing to interpret clinical eligibility.

Yes. The proposed digital kit includes ready-to-use creative, suggested copy and the final link to the online Heart Mileage Report.

Not yet. They are being finalised and will be available here before consumer media launches. Practices can prepare workflows, billing messages and staff responses now.

Agree an appropriate alternative pathway before launch and brief staff. Do not invite patients to book a service the practice cannot provide. Your PHN can help review local options and supports.

Use the existing PHASES resources page for factsheets, webinar recordings, quality-improvement tools, Primary Sense guidance and other practice tools. Contact your PHN for campaign readiness support.

Funded by the Queensland Health Clinical Research Fellowship, the PHASES Linkage project connects general practice cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk data with hospitalisation and mortality data. This study aims to better understand how CVD risk impacts hospitalisation rates and assess the accuracy of the new CVD risk prediction equation in identifying high-risk individuals within Queensland’s population.

The project will:

  • Estimate the number of heart attacks and strokes that could be prevented with improved treatment for high CVD risk.
  • Identify gaps in CVD prevention to inform future care strategies.

Running in parallel with the PHASES project, PHASES Linkage highlights the power of data-driven insights to improve cardiovascular outcomes and reduce hospitalisations.
