AMA Queensland voices support for PHASES

We’re pleased to share that AMA Queensland has formally endorsed the PHASES program with a Letter of Support, recognising its alignment with efforts to improve the quality and efficiency of care.

“AMA Queensland supports all programs that improve the quality and efficiency of care for patients, particularly those at risk of cardiovascular disease.”

The committee highlighted several strengths of the PHASES approach, including its potential to:

  • Enhance screening through patients’ regular GP
  • Increase access to funding for team-based, longitudinal care in general practice
  • Streamline digital and software integration to support clinical workflows

This endorsement adds momentum as PHASES progresses toward implementation in partnership with general practice.

Funded by the Queensland Health Clinical Research Fellowship, the PHASES Linkage project connects general practice cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk data with hospitalisation and mortality data. This study aims to better understand how CVD risk impacts hospitalisation rates and assess the accuracy of the new CVD risk prediction equation in identifying high-risk individuals within Queensland’s population.

The project will:

  • Estimate the number of heart attacks and strokes that could be prevented with improved treatment for high CVD risk.
  • Identify gaps in CVD prevention to inform future care strategies.

Running in parallel with the PHASES project, PHASES Linkage highlights the power of data-driven insights to improve cardiovascular outcomes and reduce hospitalisations.
